Story behind the soap
I came up with this recipe in July 2023, only a few months after I made my first batch of soap. I was trying to recreate Lava, a soap I loved when I worked at an aluminum foundry, and later as a carpenter’s helper. I liked the soap, and when we started selling at farmers markets it sold regularly. This past winter a customer who had tried a bar asked if he could order it in bulk, so I made a ten-bar batch for him. A friend heard about it and also ordered a ten-bar batch. I’ve now sold a third batch, and have decided to offer it as a standard part of our line. You can still buy single bars at the standard rate… the ‘bulk’ price is only for unscented Mechanic’s Soap** in five-bar batches. If you want to order in larger numbers, contact us at service@rushbrooksoap.com, and I can make as much as you need. I can make it with a scent as well, at a higher price (scent is one of the most expensive ingredients in soap).
This is a simple soap, made of lard, canola oil, coconut oil, castor oil, some pumice, and a smidge of charcoal. ***

**I’d be willing to talk about prices on custom bulk orders of any of our line, with a minimum of 10 bars per order.
***As with all of our soap, this has a bit of sodium citrate –or sodium gluconate– and EDTA. These chelators and preservatives reduce the chance of the soap turning orange.
