About Rushbrook Soap & Madstone Artisans
The folks who make, package, and sell the products sold on this site and at local fairs and markets have a combined century of work experience ranging from publishing to homebuilding. We’ve worked in printing plants, newspapers, factories, warehouses, construction sites, hospitals, banks, insurance companies, law firms, and chicken barns. One of us was in the US Navy. We’ve roofed houses and typeset books. Now we’re making soap, candles, wax melts, and other nice-smelling and useful things. We hope you like what we make.
In early 2023 we decided to make simple soap for hardworking people.
Note on soap bar weight: When we label our soap—after a minimum six-week curing period—we always state the lowest bar weight in a given batch. Your bar may weigh slightly more due to variations in the process of handmaking each batch. Over time, as water continues to evaporate from the bar, the weight will continue to decrease, but the cleansing power of the bar remains unchanged. Many users of handmade soap prefer bars that have aged at least one year, feeling that the bar becomes even more gentle and pleasant to use. Scent also decreases as the bar’s essential oils or fragrance oils evaporate; storing your soap in a sealed container can help retain the fragrance for a longer time.
